Preventing Creative Burnout: How I Got It And What I am Doing About It.



December was rough for me. I let down myself and some of the fantastic people that I work with and interview here at Left of Str8 Podcasts. Creative burnout is a real challenge, especially for those of us trying to navigate balancing posting for yourself and your community. If you're part of the LGBTQ+ community like me, the journey can be even more crazy, with societal pressures and the quest for authentic self-expression adding layers to the struggle. Also, as a gay bear of a certain age, was I chasing after a younger man's dream or abilities? I still am the primary caretaker for my elder mom in poor health, plus work a very part-time job. Can I keep up this pace? After going through a rough election that has brought out an uncertain future, I felt that I was spending too much time trying to create more content instead of refining what I created and what I really wanted to commit to, So, I have begun to look into how to cope with burnout myself, because mindfulness and self-care are powerful allies in preventing creative burnout and nurturing your mental health. I had to explore practical strategies tailored for LGBTQ+ creatives, featuring insights from a queer therapist who emphasizes the transformative power of being present and caring for oneself. I am learning how to cut down and manage my workload A LOT, and I hope some of these lessons I have learned, empower our creative spirits together and ensure that our unique voices continue to shine brightly!
