Exploring Mort's Journey in "Running on Empty"
Running on Empty is a dramedy about a man named Mort who learns that he has one year left to live. The film explores Mort's journey as he navigates his impending death and tries to decide how to spend his remaining time. While the concept is interesting, the film struggles to find its identity and some subplots feel unnecessary. The standout performances come from Jim Gaffigan and Jay Pharoah. Overall, Running on Empty receives a rating of two out of five stars.
In this episode of Bent Cinema, movie correspondent Nathan Box discusses the film 'Close to You', starring Elliot Page. The film is Page's first movie back after transitioning and is a brave and unique story. Nathan highlights the importance of telling trans stories and hopes that Hollywood will allow Page to be a leading man in future projects. He also discusses the improvised nature of the film and how it can feel forced at times. Overall, Nathan gives the film a three-star rating.
